I am a microbial ecologist that studies wildlife to advance advance our understanding of the ecology and evolution of animals. I am particularly interested in wildlife health, disease ecology and conservation medicine.
I am a researcher at Cornell university and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. My research interests and experiences integrate microbial community ecology, functional ecology, disease ecology, natural selection and natural history. I am currently exploring questions regarding the role host-associated microbial organisms play in host ecology, development and pathogen defense. Conducting research across disciplines has expanded my international collaborative network. As a team leader, I have worked with academic researchers, government employees and members in non-profits and “big greens”. To add diversity to life, I participate in science outreach, record with my band BlammityBlam and I am engaged in land-works - promoting sustainable living and gardening.
